How’s the gastric bypass going ?
This operation modifies the food circuit by connecting the bottom of the esophagus and a small part of the upper pole of the stomach directly to a loop in the small intestine.
Gastric bypass aims to cause a slower passage of food, a decrease in ghrelin levels, malabsorption of food and dumping syndrome.
It is an irreversible operation and can be performed under laparoscopy or by laparotomy.
A pre-anesthetic consultation is mandatory before the surgery which lasts about 2 to 3 hours.
What are the consequences of the operation ?
You may feel pain that can be managed by painkillers. The diet is gradually resumed following the advice of your doctor.
