Breast augmentation is a surgical intervention in aesthetic medicine to correct breast volume deficiency by implanting breast prosthesis behind or in front of the breast gland.
How is breast augmentation by prosthesis?
There are several shapes of prostheses (round, anatomical, pear-shaped…) depending on the patient’s needs and morphology (shaping, correcting a ptosis…) and a wide range of sizes are available.
The prostheses are essentially made of saline or silicone gel. Today, we prefer the gel whose consistency is similar to that of the breast.
A preliminary examination is essential before surgery to choose the desired shape. A pre-anesthetic consultation is mandatory beforehand.
The incision is 3 to 4 cm long, in sub-mammary fold, in the underarm cavity or around the areola. This procedure can take up to 2 hours.
What are the surgery consequences?
Wearing a support bra over the dressing is mandatory for 2 to 4 weeks. The patient may feel uncomfortable and heavy when she raises her arms.
