A breast lift or plasty is a surgical procedure that aims to correct a defect or improve the physical appearance of a woman’s chest to make her feel better about herself. This procedure is performed when the breasts lose their shape, due to age, pregnancy or weight loss.
How does a breast lift work ?
To correct drooping breasts, the plastic surgeon realigns the areola and nipple and lifts the mammary gland while removing excess skin. This procedure, with or without prosthesis, consists in giving a new shape to the breast, in order to have curved and young breasts with a natural and harmonious appearance.
A preoperative consultation the day before or the day of the operation must take place with the surgeon and the anesthetist. This procedure lasts between 1.30 to 2 hours.
A breast lift is possible from the age of 17 (end of puberty), but it does not prevent pregnancy or breastfeeding. A simple waiting period of 6 months is recommended. Finally, it does not increase the risk of cancer.
What are the consequences of the operation ?
You may feel pain for the first three days. Wearing a support bra over the dressing is mandatory for 2 to 4 weeks.
